Pre-Trip

Last winter when I was looking for summer volunteering opportunities, I looked at a number of organizations and opportunities beyond Global Volunteers. I really love working with Global Volunteers. They are an amazing organization that has proven time and again to provide great gains in the communities they serve. They are well organized, do a great job teaching language and about the local culture where you are volunteering. I was curious about trying a volunteer opportunity that was with other young volunteers, as well as having a bigger emphasis on exploring local culture, food, and history. I discovered ARRC programs, a well established program that has been providing travel, cultural exploration and service projects for high school and college groups for over 40 years. Like Global Volunteers ARRC programs focus on community driven sustainable projects that invest in local communities. As someone who loves to travel, try new foods, learn about the history and culture of other countries ARRC’s 3 week program to Cambodia and Vietnam stuck out as an interesting and meaningful experience. After returning from my volunteer trip in Poland, I had about 10 days to rest, visit friends and recover from jetlag. After around a week at home, I boarded a plane to LA where I met up with the other volunteers and our group leaders.
